Once you’ve scheduled your consultation you will receive an online form, please fill out the online form sent to your email address and meet the Text2MD doctor through a brief video call visit on your appointment date and time.
During your video call visit you’ll work with a Text2MD doctor to evaluate your symptoms and determine whether medicinal marijuana will be your best course of treatment. After your consultation if approved, you’ll receive your certification to apply for your card. Nearly all patients receive their signed physician certification after one consultation appointment.
There is a $75 fee for certification consultations. It’s important to note, however, that it’s Text2MD policy that patients who are unable to qualify for certification following their consultation will be fully refunded.
Text2MD staff will assist with your medical cannabis card application at no additional cost. They’ll be happy to answer questions and get you through the process with ease!

Q: How do I set up an appointment with a registered medical marijuana provider in Illinois?

Q: What do I need to provide for the evaluation and what is the cost?
A: You will need a valid Illinois Driver’s License, State ID Card, or Passport along with the last 4 digits of your Social Security Card. You will also need proof of your medical condition. Proof can include medical records, pill bottles, x-ray reports, prescriptions, doctor’s notes, etc. The consult fee is $120 .
Q: How long is my ID card valid for the Illinois Cannabis program?
A: Your registration identification card is valid for one, two, or three years depending on which application you submit to the state. It can also be permanent depending on the condition.
Q: Will patients’ registration status be made available to the public?
A: No, you are protected under HIPAA Laws so only you and the provider who certifies you will know that you are an Illinois cannabis patient.
Q: Can veterans obtain medical cannabis in Illinois?
A: Yes! Veterans who have an honorable or general discharge and are eligible for VA services and benefits are eligible for a reduced application fee for the Medical Cannabis Patient Program. The veteran must submit a copy of their DD-214 (showing dates of service and other than dishonorable) with their application.
Q: Will insurance cover the fees involved with the MMJ programs?
A: Unfortunately, no. This is because cannabis is still illegal at a federal level.
Q: Am I allowed to grow medical cannabis in Illinois?
A: You can only grow cannabis if you have a Medical Cannabis Card. You must be 21 years or older. You can grow up to 5 cannabis plants in your home. They must be in a locked room, with no access to anyone under 21.
Q: Where are the dispensaries located?
A: Dispensaries are located throughout the state. You may visit any dispensary in Illinois with your card. Here is a list of Illinois dispensaries.
Q: How much marijuana will I be able to purchase and possess as a qualified, registered Illinois cannabis patient?
A: Possession limit for Illinois residents:
– 30 grams of cannabis flower;
– 5 grams of cannabis concentrate; and o No more than 500 milligrams of THC contained in a cannabis-infused product
– Registered patients in the medical cannabis pilot program may possess more than 30 grams of cannabis if it is grown and secured in their residence under certain conditions.
Q: What is a caregiver?
A: A caregiver is a person age 21 or older who is selected by the qualifying patient as someone who is authorized to obtain and possess medical marijuana from state-licensed dispensaries on behalf of the patient, as well as provide assistance in the administration of medical marijuana.

A: To become a Caregiver for the medical marijuana program in Illinois, you must:
