Inside the artery: fewer cholesterol particles
Each yellow dot stands for about 6 mg/dL of apoB, the particles that carry cholesterol into the artery wall. Fewer particles in the blood means fewer entering the wall. Existing plaque shrinks only slightly, but its fatty core gets smaller and its cap thicker, so it is less likely to tear.

Lung cancer risk (PLCOm2012, former smoker): 0.19% over 6 years, below the 1.51% level where CT screening is usually offered. Women also see breast and cervical schedules and the Gail breast-risk model.

01 · SCORE
Five results
Three come from your lab panel (fasting insulin, HbA1c, and triglycerides-to-HDL from the lipid panel) and two from your visit (waist and blood pressure). The rest of the panel powers your heart, liver, kidney and hormone results.
02 · COMPARE
People like you
Your score is ranked against U.S. adults of your sex and age from the CDC’s national NHANES survey (2021–2023).
03 · TRANSLATE
Into years
Typical for your age reads as your age. Healthier reads younger, less healthy reads older, up to 15 years either way.
The Metabolic Foundation Panel
What we test, and why it matters.
One fasting morning draw at any Quest location. Included once, at enrollment, with the Standard membership. Retests at 3 and 6 months are smaller panels, self-pay at Quest discounted pricing or billed to your insurance.

Why we track it
Retest
Drives your metabolic age
Fasting insulin
Shows insulin resistance years before blood sugar rises, and is often the first number to improve.
3 · 6 mo
Hemoglobin A1c
Your average blood sugar over the last three months.
3 · 6 mo
Lipid panel
Triglycerides and HDL (their ratio is a strong insulin-resistance signal), plus total and LDL cholesterol for heart risk.
3 · 6 mo
Heart, liver and kidneys
Comprehensive metabolic panel
Kidney function (important during GLP-1 treatment), liver enzymes, glucose and electrolytes. Used for your heart-risk and liver scores.
3 · 6 mo
Complete blood count
Platelets for the liver-scarring score (FIB-4); hematocrit as a safety check.
3 · 6 mo
GGT
Liver enzyme used to estimate liver fat (Fatty Liver Index).
3 · 6 mo
Apolipoprotein B (apoB)
Counts the particles that carry cholesterol into artery walls, often more telling than LDL.
6 mo 3 mo if starting lipid therapy
hs-CRP
Inflammation in the blood vessels; falls with weight loss. Repeated sooner if drawn during an illness.
6 mo
Urine albumin/creatinine
Early sign of kidney and blood-vessel strain; sharpens the heart-risk estimate. A high result is confirmed with repeat samples.
Yearly at renewal
Lipoprotein(a)
An inherited heart-risk factor that diet doesn’t change.
Once in a lifetime
Hormones
Total testosterone & SHBG
Hormone balance and free testosterone. SHBG often rises as insulin resistance improves.
Yearly sooner if low or on therapy
TSH & free T4
Thyroid function, which can affect weight, energy and cholesterol.
If symptoms or on thyroid medicine
Five of these results make up your metabolic age score: fasting insulin, HbA1c, the triglyceride-to-HDL ratio, plus waist and blood pressure measured at each visit. Also measured every time: weight. Your physician adjusts testing to your history and existing results; not every member needs every test.

Frequently Asked Questions
Good questions, straight answers.
What is the difference between the two memberships?
Care is identical. The Standard membership ($350 for 6 months) includes the Metabolic Foundation Panel once, at enrollment. The New York and New Jersey membership ($199 for the first 6 months) includes no labs; your physician orders them through Quest, self-pay at Quest discounted pricing or billed to your insurance.
How is metabolic age calculated? Is it a diagnosis?
It is a way to express a ranking, not a diagnosis or a biological-age test. Five results (fasting insulin, HbA1c and the triglyceride-to-HDL ratio from your labs, plus waist-to-height and blood pressure from your visit) form a score that is ranked against U.S. adults of your sex and age in the CDC’s NHANES 2021–2023 survey. If your score is typical for your age, your metabolic age equals your age; it moves up to 15 years younger or older as your rank changes. Your physician reviews it alongside your full results.
Which labs are included, and what do follow-ups cost?
The Standard membership includes the full Metabolic Foundation Panel one time, at enrollment. Retest panels at 3 and 6 months are smaller and are not included: they are self-pay at Quest discounted pricing or billed to your insurance. The same applies to all labs for NY/NJ members. Your physician orders only what is clinically appropriate.
How many video visits are included?
Each 6-month membership includes one scheduled physician video visit, plus ongoing text messaging for the whole 6 months. If you renew, each new 6-month membership includes another video visit, so a member who stays for a year has visits at the start, at 6 months and at 12 months. Additional video visits are billed at the posted rate.
How does text messaging work? Is it 24/7?
You can text your physician throughout your 6-month membership with nonurgent questions about your results and care plan, within reasonable-use and response-time guidelines. It is not monitored 24/7 and is not for emergencies.
What happens after 6 months?
Your membership ends unless you renew. The Standard membership renews at $350 for another 6 months, with a new video visit and continued text messaging but without a second included lab panel. The NY/NJ renewal price is confirmed with you before any second-term charge. The 30% supplement discount applies to both memberships.
Does this replace my primary care doctor?
No. It complements in-person care. Physical exams, procedures, vaccines and other hands-on care still need a local clinician.
Does membership guarantee prescriptions or specific tests?
No. Testing and treatment depend on medical judgment, clinical appropriateness, your location and applicable law. Controlled substances are not prescribed.
